ERA 5 Room Tone Match Operation
Analyze button

You can find the Analyze button at the right side of the AudioSuite toolbar at the bottom of the plug-in. All you have to do is select any region of an audio clip with some background room tone, click Analyze and voila! It doesn’t matter if the region you selected contains dialogue exclusively. Room Tone Match intelligently detects and analyzes the characteristics of the underlying room tone. You don’t have to select a room tone only region.
Tip: To achieve the highest quality results, please select a clip region that is at least 5 seconds long.
Preview button

On the left side of the AudioSuite toolbar, you will find the Preview button. Select a clip region and click Preview to listen to the generated room tone, mixed with the audio of the clip you have selected.
Info: Room Tone Match does not remove the underlying room tone that already exists in the selected region. It automatically attenuates the volume of the generated room tone over speech regions. This way, Room Tone Match guarantees smooth transitions between speech and non-speech parts.
Tip: If you want to remove the room tone of the selected region, you can try using ERA 5 Noise Remover or ERA 5 Noise Remover Pro.
Room Tone only button

At the right side of the plug-in, you can see the Room Tone Only button. Click this button while previewing, to listen to the generated room tone without the original audio of the selected region.
Room Tone gain slider

Use the Room Tone gain slider to adjust the level of the generated room tone. This way you can mix it with the audio of the selected region in a way that fits best.
Render button

You can find the Render button at the right side of the AudioSuite toolbar at the bottom of the plug-in. Select a region over which you’d like to generate some room tone, click Render and that’s it! Room Tone Match will smoothly layer the generated room tone over the selected clip region.
Tip: You can fill all the gaps of an edited scene by selecting all individual clips and click Render. Room Tone Match will automatically reduce the volume of the generated room tone over the speech parts, to achieve smooth volume transitions between the edited clips and the gaps.
Tip: Another useful workflow, mainly used in Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR), is the following:
-
Select an empty region on a track
-
Enable the Room Tone Only button
-
Click Render.
This way you can easily get plenty of room tone in its own track. Therefore you can manipulate it the way that fits best.
Presets menu

In the cases you find the room tone of your live set recording sounding less convincing for your scene, or you only have access to ADR recordings, Room Tone Match comes with a bunch of great sounding factory presets to help you get started. To open the preset menu, just click the Preset button. You can preview all available presets over your selected clip region by clicking on the next/previous arrows. Additionally, you can save your own presets and recall them anytime.
Info: All factory presets of Room Tone Match were created using high fidelity stereo recordings, so you can get wider and more realistic results. You can always use them on mono clips as well, without compromising audio quality.
Info: Presets are stored by default at the following paths: Windows: MacOs:
Tip: If you are a podcaster and you’re frequently recording in the same room, you can create and save a dedicated preset so you can load it at every session.
Warning: When you uninstall Room Tone Match, all factory presets will be deleted. Your custom presets however will remain untouched!
Room tone display

The central area of Room Tone Match is occupied by the Room Tone Display. This is a visual representation of the analyzed room tone in the frequency domain. Room Tone Match can analyze up to two clips at once. In this case, two independent profiles will be displayed simultaneously.
Info: On the right side of the Room Tone Profile Display, you will find the active room tone profiles legends. These legends let you see the number of audio clips that are currently analyzed by Room Tone Match. If you analyze a mono clip region, only the first legend will be filled while the other one will stay grayed out. Following the same paradigm, analyzing a stereo clip region or 2 mono clip regions will fill both of them.

Resizing the plug-in window
Room Tone Match offers the option to resize the plug-in window. This can be helpful if you have large or high-resolution screens or you just want to focus on a specific task. Click the zoom icon at the top right corner and choose between three settings.

Warning: Low resolution screens such as 600x480 cannot correctly display the plug-in for zoom options above 100%. Additionally, some hosts may clip the plug-in window in such low resolutions.
Quick Info Button
On the left side of the Zoom icon, you will find the Quick Info button. Enable it and hover the mouse over any control of Room Tone Match. A pop-up window will appear right below the Info button, containing helpful information and tips for each control.

Info: To hide the pop-up window, just click on the Quick Info button once again.
